About the features and properties of bifidobacteria

Since both are used in yogurt, bifidobacteria and lactic acid bacteria are often confused and thought to be the same microbes, but taxonomically, they are of different genera. Lactic acid bacteria metabolize sugar to produce lactic acid, whereas bifidobacteria produce acetic acid as well as lactic acid. More importantly, yogurt containing bifidobacteria is known to have more potent physiological functions such as maintaining intestinal health.

Bacterial names sometimes contain letter and number codes, which are called strain designations. Just like different people have different characters, different bacterial strains, even from the same species, can have different physiological functions and morphology. The strain designations are intended to differentiate bacterial strains based on these differences.

In a study on the effectiveness of bifidobacteria for maintaining intestinal health, effects were observed when consuming 100 g per day of yogurt containing more than 2 billion of B. longum BB536. It is important to consume them everyday rather than a large amount at one time.

It varies from person to person and depends when you consume them. The probability of reaching the intestines alive may be higher when they are consumed after a meal.
